Our Story

Seeds of Kindness

Kids for Kindness began with one child’s simple question. After a large community gathering, six‑year‑old Umar found his mother packing leftover food for refugee families. When he asked why they couldn’t “just go to a restaurant,” his mother realized he had never been taught about the struggles many families face. That moment sparked a heartfelt conversation about empathy, gratitude, and helping others within the family.

  • Inspired by the experience, the family began looking for ways to support those in need.
  • They wanted meaningful, hands-on service opportunities that were suitable for very young children.
  • Finding volunteer activities designed for young kids was difficult.
  • Their search eventually led them to Miss Boneta and Mrs. Dugan.
  • Both were instrumental in arranging unique volunteer experiences tailored specifically for young children.

What started as one child’s desire to serve blossomed into a collective effort between the brothers — and later into a community movement. In 2024, the community joined hands to officially launch Kids for Kindness, a child‑led nonprofit that teaches empathy by practicing it from an early age and empowers children to make a real difference through hands‑on service.

Today, children from more than one hundred families volunteer with us, proving that when you plant a small seed of kindness, it can grow into a truly remarkable tree!
